Why I’m Loving this Affordable Alternative to the Lululemon Scuba Oversized Full Zip Hoodie

If you’ve been paying attention to activewear in the last year, you’re likely already familiar with the Lululemon Scuba Oversized Scuba Full Zip Hoodie and Scuba Oversized Half Zip Hoodie.
These comfortable sweatshirts have exploded in popularity and have quickly become a Lululemon best seller. However the Scuba hoodie itself is not new. The classic Lulu Scuba is a longer, somewhat fitted hoodie that’s known for its durable and warm fabric, intentionally oversized hood, high funnel neck, thumbholes, and distinctive seams. It’s more flattering than a traditional hooded sweatshirt, but it’s just as functional. I own an older one, and it’s held up really well to repeated wash and wear.
This newer take on the Scuba has a more modern cut that definitely leans trendy. It’s boxier and cut shorter, with a slightly cropped fit. It still has thumbholes and a high funnel neck. It still has distinctive seams. It still has similar or the same fabric. But the look is totally different, and it’s totally modern.
In expanding their Scuba line, Lululemon first released the now famous Scuba Oversized Half-Zip Hoodie. The piece was wildly successful. They followed it up with a full-zip version. And then most recently, they released a funnel-neck version without the hood.
Unfortunately for my wallet, I am a Lululemon fan. Unable to ignore the hype any longer, I visited a Lululemon store and tried on both the Scuba oversized half-zip and Scuba oversized full-zip. I decided not to purchase because I thought the fabric was a bit too thick and the sweatshirt overall felt a little too bulky for me. The $118 price tag is enough to make me hesitate if the item is not perfect. However I did like the look, so I started looking for similar items that might feel a little less bulky.
Old Navy, Aerie, and Aritzia all over similar cropped oversized hoodies. But I found this one at Amazon that I absolutely adore. In fact, I already ordered a second one. It’s the LASLULU Womens Full Zipper Hoodie.
Why I love this affordable alternative to the Lululemon Scuba Oversized Hoodie
I love this hoodie because it has all of the stylistic traits of the Lululemon Oversized Full Zip Scuba, including:
- Cropped length
- Oversized, boxy fit
- Long sleeves with thumbholes
- Flattering seams on the front and back
- Oversized hood
- High, funnel neck
- Soft and warm fleecy interior
But the fabric is a bit more pliable and not quick as thick. It’s still super warm, but it feels less bulky to me. It also does not have drop shoulder seams, unlike some of the other alternatives mentioned, like the one from Old Navy. The Old Navy sweatshirt was super comfortable, but personally am not a fan of drop shoulders.
I bought the grey color, which does not match exactly to a Lululemon shade, but the closest colorway would be Heathered Core Ultra Light Grey. The Laslulu version is also a heathered grey, with a bit of a salt and pepper look. The inside is fleecy and white.
Some people in Amazon reviews have complained about a faulty zipper, but I have been lucky and have had no problems with mine.
Sizing and fabric
In terms of sizing, I typically wear a size 6 at Lululemon. I bought a size small in the Laslulu shirt, and it fits similarly to the XS/S size of the Lululemon Scuba Oversized Half-Zip Hoodie. I also tried a size medium (which I returned), and it fit more like the M/L size of the Lululemon Scuba. Not a lot of difference in length, but it was boxier and had more room in the shoulders and arms.
Here are some specific measurements of the Laslulu Oversized Full-Zip Hoodie in size small:
- Length from shoulder seam to bottom: Roughly 19″
- Length from arm pit to arm pit: Roughly 18.5″
- Length from sleeve end to shoulder seam: Roughly 26.75″
The fabric of the Laslulu hoodie is 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex.
How to Style the Laslulu Hoodie (or the Lululemon Scuba Oversized Full Zip Hoodie)
With its boxy, cropped cut, this hoodie was made to wear with high-waisted leggings. But it also looks great with biker shorts or joggers! Here are a few outfit combinations if you need ideas:

- Biker shorts (I like these ones by Baleaf with pockets) or leggings
- Laslulu hoodie

Where to Buy the Laslulu Hoodie
Unlike other brands like 90 Degree and Yogalicious, I’ve only seen the Laslulu hoodie available on Amazon. Note that it goes in and out of stock. But if you watch the Amazon listing, they restock almost every day. It’s worth the hunt!

In conclusion, this is one of my all-time favorite “inspired by Lululemon” pieces. This thing is so cozy. So cozy. It has become one of my favorite loungewear and work-from-home pieces. I feel grateful that I was able to find a sweatshirt with the look I wanted, but at roughly a third of the price!
